20" x 30" oil on canvas $3,245
From the middle of April until the
end of July, I was at the park painting three times a week, weather
permitting. Most days I felt lucky to get in one or two plein air
sketches before the conditions would change to ‘time to pack up and go
home’. Towards the end of June there was one day that was almost
perfect, with blue skies, light winds, and fascinating cloud formations
all day long. The entire day was spent at one spot near the edge of
Kilauea caldera. I was able to get four paintings I was happy with, each
one done facing in a different direction. This studio painting is based
on the 8”x12” study of the same name, the first one painted that day.
