Mist at Devil's Throat       18" x 12"       oil on canvas       $1,755

Devilís Throat is a pit crater located off Chain of Craters Road. The day I painted the study, the weather was windy, wet, and foggy. As it frequently happens at the park, the weather was pretty nice when I got there, and then proceeded to turn for the worse as soon as Iíd gotten set up to work. Such is life for plein air painters. The only reason I didnít pack up and leave was that it took such an effort to get in there in the first place, so I was determined to come away with something. I was drawn to paint this Ohia tree that was perched on the edge of the crumbling crater, while I was somewhat nervously perched on the opposite edge. The crater is only about 45 yards across, but is 165 feet deep; a very dramatic spot that I plan to revisit.
